Rules of the contest FUNIBER Olympics

1. Topic and purpose
During the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics, FUNIBER announces FUNIBER Olympics, a contest to motivate and reward exciting, surprising projects that can reflect the personal vision of the event by relating it with the acquired knowledge of students and alumni from FUNIBER.
The Summer Olympics not only gather different flags, but also historical, cultural, economic and social elements that can inspire research works and analysis of data and opinions. The FUNIBER Olympics contest aims to encourage the interaction of students with a practical vision of their studies, encourage the group interaction, develop knowledge from a fun practice and the reading of other projects, as well as to promote cultural diversity, between knowledge and countries.
Topic examples for the project (these ideas are illustrative):

  • Media analysis and interpretation of the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics
  • Study of the opening and/or closing ceremony protocol of the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics
  • How has the design of the stadiums evolved throughout the history of the Summer Olympics
  • Ergogenic legal aids that improve the athletes’ performance from the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics
  • Food and Nutrition that improve the athletes’ performance from the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics
  • The fight against doping in athletes
  • Study of the athletes’ marketing and branding
  • Economic, social, cultural advantages and/or disadvantages for the country or city that hosts the Summer Olympics
  • Analysis of the volunteers that help in the Summer Olympics (within the stadiums, outdoors, transport, giving information, etc.)
  • Carbon footprint calculation during the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics
  • Seasonal capacity of the city of Rio de Janeiro to host the Summer Olympics
  • Opportunity costs of the Summer Olympics
  • Values in sport and education: conflict resolution, team work, spirit of sacrifice, etc.
  • Training in cultural mediation of the organizers of sports events like the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics.
  • The importance of the linguistic needs arising from the organization of sports events as the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics: translation, interpretation, etc.
  • Language training for professionals directly or indirectly related to the organization of sports events like the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics (taxi drivers, waiters, informers, guides, etc.): design and planning of foreign languages courses.

2. Participants
All the students and alumni of FUNIBER from all areas of knowledge can participate:

  • Projects, Prevention, Quality, Engineering
  • Design and Architecture
  • Business, HR

3. Formats 
The FUNIBER Olympics contest only accepts projects in the following formats. Participants will be able to choose a format for submitting their projects:

  • ARTICLE: It should be a minimum of 2 pages and a maximum of 3, written in Arial, size 12, single-spaced (1.0).
    Submission Format: The text will be submitted in Word Perfect (.DOC). Images (if any) must be in .JPG or .PNG, with a minimum resolution of 72 dpi and the lower side must contain a minimum of 800 pixels. Also, the submission of the article in PDF will be valued although this format does not exclude the submission in the preceding formats which are mandatory.
  • PHOTO ESSAY: Photo essay must contain between 6 and 15 photographs. Images must have a minimum resolution of 72 dpi and the lower side must contain a minimum of 800 pixels. Images are accepted in .JPG or .PNG. The order in which the images have to be displayed must be indicated, therefore they must be named as follows: name and surname of the participant_number of the series. For example: Juan_Lopez_01.jpg
  • VIDEO: Audiovisual piece with a maximum duration of 3 minutes, published on YOUTUBE or VIMEO. Videos may be commercials, narrative or mixed. The link of the video will be submitted in a Word document.
  • INFOGRAPHIC: Infographic in .PDF or .JPG
    An infographic is a visual way to offer an information, with a schematic presentation that summarizes data and explains it through bullets and graphics easy to understand.
  • POSTERS (Graphic design): Graphic design projects in .PDF or .JPG (for example: poster, diptych. triptych, etc.)

4. Presentation and Requirements

  • Projects should have a title
  • Each applicant can only submit a single project
  • Each project must be presented in the chosen format (see point 3) with a justification of the project carried out in a maximum of 400 words (Word format) and a title
  • Projects must be sent by email to: comunicacion@funiber.org within the indicated deadline (see calendar in point 7)
  • The criterion for naming the file/s to be submitted will be the following: Name_Surname.pdf (chosen format extension).
  • Projects must be original, unpublished. They must not have been awarded in other competitions or contests.
  • They must include the information sources and the copyright has to be taken into account, according to the case.
  • The content of the project will be novel and will be related to the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics
  • The content of the project will be related to the aspirant’ studies carried out in FUNIBER.

5. Language:
Spanish, French, English, Italian and Portuguese.

6. Procedure for the registration

  • Registration will take place within the indicated deadline (see calendar. Point 7) through the blog www.estudiarenfuniber.com
  • Registrations can be carried out individually only by students or alumni of FUNIBER
  • Those interested in participating must accept the rules of the contest, fill out a registration form with personal details and choose a country to represent. The country must correspond to the participant’s nationality.
  • Once participants are registered, they will be able to send their projects in different formats to this e-mail: comunicacion@funiber.org, between the 20th June and the 11th July 2016

7. Calendar

  • 20th June – 11th July 2016: Registration and projects’ submission (11:00h Central Spanish Time)
  • 11th July 2016: The deadline of the projects submission is over (23:59h Central Spanish Time)
  • 19th July 2016: Publication of the 10 semi-finalists in the blog www.estudiarenfuniber.com (to be issued from 11:00h Central Spanish Time)
  • 19th July – 1st August 2016: The 10 semi-finalists will launch a campaign to promote their projects through the means they deem appropriate. At the same time, the process of public voting through "Like" on Facebook will begin (Voting will start at 11:00h and will end at 23:59h, Central Spanish Time)
  • 2nd August 2016: Counting of votes and publication of the 3 finalists in the blog www.estudiarenfuniber.com (to be issued from 11:00h Central Spanish Time)
  • 2nd – 21st August 2016: The 3 semi-finalists will launch a campaign to promote their projects through the means they deem appropriate. At the same time, the process of public voting through "Like" on Facebook will begin (Voting will start at 11:00h and will end at 23:59h, Central Spanish Time)
  • 22nd August 2016: Counting of votes and publication of the 3 finalists in the blog www.estudiarenfuniber.com (to be issued from 11:00h Central Spanish Time)

8. Jury and Selection Criteria

  • The FUNIBER Olympics jury will be formed by a committee that will select10 projects.
  • The committee will be composed by teachers of the different FUNIBER areas of knowledge and by the Communication Department of FUNIBER.
  • The committee’s decision will be unappealable.
  • The analysis and interpretation of the topic will be positively valued, by especially selecting creative and original projects.
  • Projects that do not fulfill the format requirements will not be accepted.
  • Projects that transmit or disseminate illegal, defamatory, offensive content or that violates the values and the dignity of people will not be accepted.
  • FUNIBER reserves the right to exclude from the contest any participant who does not fulfill the participation rules set out in these terms and conditions, without prejudice to other legal measures.
  • If the projects are void of quality, at the discretion of the jury, the contest can be declared null.

9. Voting

  • First qualifying round: The committee will select 10 finalists among the projects and they will be published in the blog www.estudiarenfuniber.com. The 10 best projects will represent different countries.
  • The 10 finalists must promote their projects through the means they deem appropriate to win popular votes ("Likes" on Facebook)
  • Second qualifying round: The public will be able to vote virtually one of the 10 best selected projects (19th July -1st August 2016).
    Only one vote/like per person is accepted.
    The 3 most liked projects will be qualified for the final round. Then, FUNIBER will launch a campaign to disseminate the 3 finalist projects, in order to promote the final vote, that will also be popular.
  • Final round: The public will be able to virtually vote between the 3 finalists for the project they consider that must win the Olympics contest. (2nd – 21st August 2016) Only one vote/like per person is accepted.
    The most voted project in this round will be the winner of the FUNIBER Olympics contest

10. Verdict
The contest’s verdict will be announced in the blog www.estudiarenfuniber.com and through the means of communication that FUNIBER deems appropriate.

11. Prize

  • Winning Project
    Tablet + an 80%Scholarship for a Master’s degree in FUNIBER, it can be transferred to a relative.
  • Second place:
    A Tablet
  • Third place: 
    A Pack of FUNIBER merchandising products

    Note: The awards ceremony may be delayed for two months from the date of publication of the winning project.

12. Rights and Responsibilities

  • FUNIBER is not responsible for those elements presented in the project  that may violate copyright laws. Contestants are responsible for their submitted projects, they must be original and they must not be subjected to any legal claim.
  • Contestants give up the reproduction rights exclusively for the publication and dissemination of the finalist and award-winning images, as well as for a promotional use.
  • FUNIBER will use the selected projects as promotional materials if deemed appropriate.
  • When a user of the blog www.estudiarenfuniber.com fills in any of the forms with the required personal data and clicks “Send” or sends an email with personal data, authorizes FUNIBER to manage and incorporate into our files the provided personal data and any data related to the participation in the contest, and therefore, the user accepts the conditions presented below. The acceptance is revocable, and it doesn’t have retroactive effects.
  • Participants of the FUNIBER Olympics contest authorize FUNIBER, without the right to receive any kind of compensation, to use their name and image in advertising and communications, both written and electronic, which will be carried out in order to broadcast the contest.
  • FUNIBER assumes no responsibility for the information and the contents of the submitted projects and, in particular, for damages that arise, or might arise, as well as for the ideas and opinions expressed, and the lack of veracity of the provided data.

A partial or total breach of these terms will be a reason to exclude the participant from the contest.
